More than 250 Secondary 1 students from St Patrick's School helped to share about the 4 Caring Norms and distributed tissue packets with personalised hand-written notes at MRT stations and bus interchanges, as part of their annual Love in Action Day on 1 July.

The St Patrick's School Love in Action Day aims to develop students to contribute meaningfully to the community. This year, the school collaborated with the Caring SG Commuters Committee to educate their students on Caring Commuting Culture.
The students were first introduced to the Caring Commuter Movement during an assembly talk a few months prior. Guest speakers from SG Enable were also invited to share their personal experiences dealing with low vision and hearing loss.

With the support of their school teachers, the students went on with a 45-min Champions e-training to learn about various disabilities/conditions and how to better assist other commuters who may need help.
Love In Action, in action
The students, who were then certified as Caring Commuter Champions, set off to 18 MRT stations and 4 bus interchanges to put their new knowledge into practice. Even though most have not previously engaged in such activities, the students warmed up quickly. They each carried the flyer of the Caring Norms that they designed, to aid with their sharing.

It was heartening to see commuters stop to listen to the students. The kindness that the students displayed was reciprocated as commuters appreciated and thanked them for their efforts.
Through this event, the students became young advocates of the movement and put their knowledge to good use by spreading the 4 Caring Norms to those around them.
The teachers at St Patrick’s School expressed their appreciation for our Rail Transit Operators, SBS Transit and SMRT, whose staff cared for the students and briefed them on what to do. “This gave our boys added confidence to do what needed to be done.” – Ms Annisa, Teacher at St Patrick's School.
