Caring Commuter Award 2022

Eight caring commuters were recognised for going the extra mile to help others at the Caring Commuter Award ceremony held at Toa Payoh HDB Hub Atrium on 5 November 2022. 

Richard Magnus Award for the Outstanding Caring Commuter

2 The “Richard Magnus Award for the Outstanding Caring Commuter” had been awarded to Mr Chan Yarn Kit and Mr Randy Lim for their caring act to resuscitate a man who collapsed in the train.

3 The Outstanding Caring Commuter Award was renamed “Richard Magnus Award for the Outstanding Caring Commuter” in June 2022 in honour of the late Mr Richard Magnus, the first Chairperson of the Caring SG Commuters Committee, for his efforts in championing a caring commuting culture.

Commendation Award

4 Six other commuters from five nominations received the commendation award. The broad spectrum of help rendered by these individuals demonstrated not only the many ways of showing acts of care on public transport, but also the caring nature of our commuters. The winners’ stories are appended below.

Caring Commuter Award 2022

5 The Caring Commuter Award was first launched in 2019. In its fourth edition this year, the award aims to generate greater awareness and encourage the involvement of the whole community to practise and promote caring behaviour.

6 This year, the Caring SG Commuters Committee received a record number of 65 nominations from both members of public and Public Transport Operators. Of which, six caring acts involving eight caring commuters were selected for the Caring Commuter Awards. Nominations were evaluated based on the impact of their act of care to the person being assisted, the effort that was undertaken by the caring commuter, and the situation at hand. 

7 The Caring Commuter Award ceremony was part of the Caring Commuter Week1 organised by Caring SG Commuters Committee. Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, was the Guest-of-Honour at the event and presented the trophies and certificates to the winners. Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Ms Janet Ang, Chairperson of the Public Transport Council and Caring SG Commuters Committee, were also in attendance.

The Caring SG Commuters movement first began in August 2017 as a national culture-building movement to foster a caring commuting culture in Singapore. About Caring Commuter Award

The Caring Commuter Award was launched in 2019 and recognises public transport commuters who have demonstrated acts of care during their daily commute. The Caring Commuter Award 2022 is organised as part of the Caring Commuter Week for the first time this year and is also part of the Caring SG Commuters movement.
