Celebrating Our Partners in the Journey towards a More Caring Commuting Culture

Three outstanding organisations were recognised with the Caring SG Commuters Partners Award for their active efforts to champion the Caring SG Commuters movement by co-creating initiatives to strengthen the culture of care on Singapore’s public transport network. Dementia Singapore, Singapore Polytechnic and St. Patrick’s School were honoured for their commitment to foster more inclusive and caring journeys for all commuters.

Dementia Singapore: Shaping a More Dementia-Inclusive Singapore

For people living with dementia, public transport is an important means to stay independent and socially connected. Dementia Singapore’s partnership with Caring SG Commuters has made commuting more accessible for these commuters in both tangible and intangible ways.

The collaboration saw the introduction of the wayfinding murals at bus interchanges and MRT stations and the enhancement of educational content on supporting commuters with dementia in our Caring Commuter Champions (CCC) e-learning course. These projects have not only raised awareness among the public on how they can assist people living with dementia on public transport in very concrete, practical, and tangible ways, they have expanded dementia advocacy into the public transport sphere and enhanced the inclusion of persons living with dementia in our communities.

Singapore Polytechnic: Nurturing Caring Youths

Singapore Polytechnic (SP), with its mission to develop caring, socially responsible learners, has committed to join the Caring SG Commuters Movement. Batches of Polytechnic Foundation Programme students taking courses from the School of Life Skills and Communication were given opportunities to engage diverse audiences. They led and organised Service Learning projects as part of the Active and Effective Citizenry module, by promoting civic-mindedness and empathy among the communities. In 2024, Media, Arts & Design students also used gamification as a tool to develop four Young Caring SG Commuters Web Games, moving beyond entertainment to shape behaviours and build empathy.

These experiences helped students learn that their skills as future professionals come with the responsibility to contribute positively to society.

St. Patrick’s School: Raising Young Caring Commuters

St. Patrick's School introduced the Caring Commuter Champion volunteering programme as part of their school’s annual Values in Action programme. Since January 2022, every Secondary 1 cohort would attend an assembly talk on how to be a Caring Commuter Champion and participate in a specially curated activity “Love In Action Day”, which complements the sharing at the assembly with practical applications for the students. Every year, the entire Secondary 1 cohort visited up to 18 MRT stations and three bus interchanges to share messages on Caring Commuting with members of public. They also thanked commuters with handwritten messages of kindness on school customised tissue packets.

Through its partnership with Caring SG Commuters team, the school has helped students grow into respectful and observant members of the community, empowering students to look out for fellow commuters. The programme deepened their awareness of diverse commuter needs and encouraged thoughtful, proactive behaviour beyond the classroom.
