Planting Care, One Commuter at a Time
23 June 2026
Meet Michael Lee. Commuters who frequent Dhoby Ghaut, Bayfront and Promenade Circle Line stations may have found him familiar.

Michael regularly volunteers at the platform to help fellow commuters navigate the station and board the correct train.
A Personal Experience That Started It All
Having once lost his bearings at Dhoby Ghaut station, Michael knows firsthand what it feels like to feel disoriented. He decided to step forward and help others who find themselves lost or disoriented at the station.

Michael would pay close attention to his surroundings, and notice subtle signs such as hesitant movements, lingering glances at platform signage, or commuters standing still amidst the crowd.
Assess, Ask and Assist
He learnt to recognise when someone might need assistance over time, and would approach them, even before they ask for help.
Stepping in did not always come easily. Michael shared that he was initially worried that others might perceive him as a “busybody”.
However, he chose not to let hesitation hold him back. His experiences also encouraged him to become more confident in offering help.
“It’s natural to feel afraid the very first time, but just do it anyway! Go with your heart!”— Mr Lee Keok Kew, Michael
A Satisfying Detour
Michael volunteers frequently, including weekends and late evenings, sometimes staying as late as 11.00pm.
Michael’s support often extends beyond giving directions. When a tourist’s hotel is within walking distance, he would personally accompany them there before returning to the station to continue volunteering.
He feels that his actions can provide relief to these commuters who are travelling with large luggage, young children, or elderly family members.
For Michael, going the extra mile is about providing reassurance and making their journey a little easier.
Helping others, he shared, gives him a deep sense of satisfaction and allows him to contribute meaningfully to society in his own way.

He hopes that everyone can play their part and we can build a community of caring commuters.
Through his consistent presence and willingness to step forward, Michael has turned everyday moments into opportunities to make someone's journey just a little bit better.
Don’t forget to say Hi to Michael if you see him on the platform at Dhoby Ghaut, Bayfront or Promenade!
“Let’s all plant a caring seed each, and see them grow into caring trees that bring out the best caring experiences for the commuting community.”— Mr Lee Keok Kew, Michael
