Title : Commuting through Nostalgia with CARE
Abstract : Corporate Social Responsibility Care Ride - Journey to Toa Payoh

Ever wonder how our public transport had transformed over the years? Recently, corporate volunteers from Lock + Store embarked on a heartwarming journey with elderly residents from Care Corner Singapore, discovering the nostalgic transformation of our public transport history. Together, they explored the caring and inclusive features in our public transport spaces, which showcase a perfect blend of ‘heartware’ and hardware that puts people first.

It is important to recognise that all commuters encounter different challenges during their daily commutes. During this initiative, the corporate volunteers gained insights into the difficulties experienced by the elderly participants as they travelled from Woodlands to Toa Payoh Hub. Simultaneously, the elderly participants learnt how to better engage and interact with the younger generation.

‘Commuting begins with small acts of kindness. Through this experience, we learned that everyone has a role to play in making public transport not just efficient, but also human-centred and welcoming,' said Lela Suzana, Senior Operations Manager, Lock + Store.

'The outing was a great opportunity to learn more about how public transport works in a real-world setting. The volunteers were incredibly friendly, patient, and caring, they took the time to explain things clearly and made the entire experience engaging and enjoyable. Their support really helped me feel comfortable and more confident using public transport,' shared Lew Ah Choo, beneficiary from Care Corner Singapore.

We often view situations from our own perspective and may overlook the challenges faced by fellow commuters. By taking a moment to pause, share a smile, and show consideration during our commute, we can make a difference. An act of care can be the reason for the smile on another commuter’s face! Together, we can build a more caring commuting community.
